School fees are determined by voting at an annual Parents’ Meeting required in terms of Section 38 (2) of the South African Schools Act 84 of 1996. Parents attending the meeting from a quorum.
During the Parents’ Meeting, it was determined that Laerskool Bergsig is a school fee paying school, which means that school fees will be charged monthly and are payable in advance by both parents (According to the South African Schools Act 84 of 1996)
Payment of school fees must be made in 11 instalments monthly, before the seventh of each month, 7 January 2024 to 7 November 2025.
SCHOOL FEES 2025
Grade R to Gr 7 = R1 500,00 per month x 11 months (January to November) or R16 500,00 per learner per year.

First Child: R1 500,00
Second Child: R1 400,00
Third and Fourth child: R1 450,00

Maintenance of buildings and grounds

Parents have the following payment options to pay school fees:
Debit order (Form available at school office or at the bottom of this page). We prefer that parents use this way of paying school fees.
Card – Card facility is available in the school finance office.
Cash – Parents can make cash payment at the school finance office but for safety reasons, we prefer not to have cash at the school.

SCHOOL FEE EXCEMPTION
According to the South African School Act 84 of 1996, parents of learners Gr 1 – Gr 7 can apply for school fee exemption should they think they qualify therefor. Parents can collect an application form from the financial office from February 2025.
No forms will be emailed or given to learners; parents must collect the form personally. We will process the application by 31 March 2025. An incomplete application will not be processed.
Take Note: While you wait for a response to your application, you are still liable for the full payment of school fees. Please keep the payments up to date.
COLLECTION OF SCHOOL FEES
According to Section 40 of the South African Schools Act 84 of 1996, BOTH PARENTS are (Legally) obliged to pay school fees – it is therefore a statutory expense. The school may take legal action to collect outstanding / overdue school fees.
The debtor’s collection process for 2025 for information:
Account statement will be sent via email on the 25th of each month. Should you not receive your statement kindly contact the financial office immediately.
If your account has not been paid by the 7th of the month, the collection process will begin.
If your account is 30 days in arrears, you will be contacted by Ms. Burnie Pretorius via “WhatsApp”, email, or telephone.
If your account is 60 days in arrears, you will receive a reminder. If you do not make a payment of respond with a written arrangement, you will be in danger of legal action that includes negative remarks at the credit bureau or blacklisting.
If you do not comply with your prior arrangement, or do not respond at all to the reminder (letter) within the said time, we will proceed without further notice with the necessary legal action which will include handing your case over to our collectors or direct summons for the outstanding fees.
